Our committes are the hands and feet of General Service, carrying the AA message into
institutions, to professionals, and directly to the public
Purpose: Carries the AA message into local jails, prisons, detox centers, and rehab facilities where the alcoholic cannot freely leave to attend a regular meeting.
What we do: Coordinate volunteer-led panels, manage clearance applications for facility entry, and facilitate the "Bridging the Gap" program to connect individuals leaving facilities with a sponsor on the outside.
How to help: Sign up to speak on a panel, donate softcover Big Books, or volunteer as a temporary contact for someone newly released.
Purpose: Creates a clear window into AA for the general public, aiming to prevent misunderstandings and ensure the hand of AA is easily found.
What we do: Place AA literature and meeting schedules in public spaces like libraries, schools, and community centers, and handle media inquiries locally while maintaining strict anonymity traditions.
How to help: Help distribute literature racks or assist with public awareness workshops.
Purpose: Reaches out to the professionals who come into contact with active alcoholics—doctors, lawyers, clergy, social workers, and court officials.
What we do: Provide informational presentations, explain what AA does (and does not) do, and help professionals understand how to refer clients or patients to local meetings.
How to help: If you work in a professional field or are comfortable speaking to professional groups, join our committee.
Purpose: Preserves the historical record, documents, and physical artifacts of our District’s groups and members to ensure our collective experience is passed on.
What we do: Collect group histories, record interviews with long-timers, and archive old meeting schedules, minutes, and event flyers.
How to help: Submit a written history of your home group or volunteer to help digitize old paper records.
Purpose: Acts as a resource center for AA’s "meeting in print" (The Grapevine magazine) and conference-approved literature.
What we do: Ensure local groups have access to current literature catalogs, display materials at District events, and encourage Grapevine subscriptions.
How to help: Serve as a Grapevine Representative (GVR) for your home group to keep your members informed about new materials.
